What Is Plant Therapy KidSafe Essential Oil?

What Is Plant Therapy KidSafe Essential Oil?

Almost 4 years ago, we launched our KidSafe® line of synergies to help empower families to choose essential oils they could use with confidence for their children. This wasn’t our only goal, however. Let’s take a look at what it really means to be KidSafe®

When Plant Therapy teamed up with Robert Tisserand to formulate a line of essential oils that were safe for the children in our lives, we wanted to ensure that our customers knew that when they choose a KidSafe® oil or synergy, they are truly just that: KID SAFE (when properly diluted). Robert is known internationally for his work in aromatherapy and specifically in regards to safety and safe use. To ensure your family’s well-being, we worked together to accomplish our goals.

Some people are under the impression these are simply diluted blends. This isn’t the case.

KidSafe® synergies are formulated with 100% pure essential oils that are deemed appropriate for use with young children. While we do offer many as pre-diluted roller bottles, those are clearly marked and ready for use when they arrive at your home. However, dilution isn’t the only point to consider. If you haven’t had a chance to read this previous blog post, we encourage you to do so, so that you can understand why some essential oils are not recommended for use with children: Safety with Kids

All children are different! These are general guidelines and you must find what works for your family.

However, there are certain oils to avoid with children, such as:

  • Birch and Wintergreen because of the concern of developing Reye’s Syndrome. Those who take aspirin or other blood-thinning medications should avoid using Wintergreen. Do not use at all during or shortly after a viral fever. We recommend a maximum dilution of 2.4% for topical applications. Completely avoid Wintergreen oil up to age 12. Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Oils high in menthol or 1,8-cineole {like Peppermint or Rosemary} should also be avoided since they can cause breathing concerns with young children. While this is rare – it can occur and should be taken seriously when choosing essential oils. The good news is there are so many oils that cover some of the same therapeutic properties that age-appropriate oils are easy to find!
  • Children under the age of two have the most restrictions on use. Essential oils for use on children ages 2 – 10 can be found here – kid safe chart. Once a child has reached age 10, unless they’ve shown a sensitivity or other reaction, nearly all oils are safe for use.

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 10.56.41 AMTo make this EVEN easier, we have KidSafe® when diluted stamped on every essential oil we offer that IS safe to use with your children. Buy with confidence knowing that you are doing you’re very best to protect, uplift, and care for the ones you love!

Finally, to clear up any confusion about what meets our strict standards for a KidSafe® essential oil, let’s take a look at some finer points:

  • If there is ANY extra caution with an oil, it simply will not make our KidSafe® list. That doesn’t mean the oil isn’t safe, it simply means it might not be the safest!
  • These are NOT just diluted versions of “adult” synergies. They are specially formulated to contain essential oils that are gentle, yet effective for children. Taking the risk out of choosing.
  • Each KidSafe® single oil OR synergy is 100% pure, free of any additives, adulterants or dilutions. They are of the absolute highest quality and are ideal for use in aromatherapy.
  • Another wonderful benefit is that elderly or infirm individuals can also use these singles and synergies. They are gentle and don’t come with risks or cautions associated with other essential oils.
  • The “safeness” makes these KidSafe® products a fabulous choice for beginners. We provide lots of education right on the website AND the label so you can use with confidence.
